A restaurant menu you can update without reprinting

Put a QR code on the table and keep the menu current. How to make a menu flipbook, fix a price in a minute, and keep the printed codes working.

A printed menu is out of date the day a price changes or a dish sells out. A QR code on the table that opens a menu you control is not. Here is how to set one up so that fixing a price takes a minute and the printed codes never need replacing.

Start from a template

FlipbookIQ includes starter templates for a restaurant menu and a café menu. The restaurant template is four pages: a cover, starters, mains, desserts and drinks, and opening hours. Open one in the Studio, change the words, and add your own photos from the built-in free photo search.

Already have a menu designed in Word or PowerPoint? Use the free add-in, or save it as a PDF and drop it into the Studio.

On a paid plan you can choose the link name, for example a short readable one, and connect your own domain, such as menu.yourrestaurant.com. A short readable link looks better on a window sticker than a string of letters.

The share window shows a QR code for your link. Print it on table cards, on the door, and on the receipt. Because the QR code points at the link and not at a particular version, it keeps working when you change the menu.

Fix a price in a minute

When a price changes:

  1. Open the menu in the Studio.
  2. Use the Text tool to cover the old price and type the new one on the page, or fix the document and publish again.
  3. Publish. The same link and the same printed QR codes now show the new menu.

The page also shows when the menu was last updated, which is a small thing guests notice.

Handle the awkward cases

  • Sold out tonight. Put a short note on the page, or update the menu for the evening and update it back tomorrow. It takes the same minute.
  • A seasonal menu. Publish the new version over the old one. The link stays the same, so the table cards stay the same.
  • Guests with no signal. Dining rooms have dead spots. Readers can tap Save offline so the menu opens with no connection.
  • Guests who want paper. The flipbook also offers a PDF to download or print.

What to check first

Before you print any codes, run the Check tool. It will catch a leftover "TBD" next to a dish, or a promotion whose end date has passed.

Ready to try it? Open the Studio and start from the menu template.
