A weekly routine for a seasonal menu that is never wrong

Menus change with the market. A simple weekly routine keeps a flipbook menu current, the QR code on the table the same, and the old PDF out of circulation.

A seasonal menu is a good thing to cook and a bad thing to print. By Thursday the fish is gone, the soup has changed, and the paper menu is wrong. A menu that guests scan from the table can be right every day, if keeping it right is a habit and not a project.

This is a routine that takes about ten minutes a week.

Set it up once

  1. Start from a menu template, or drop in the menu you already have as a PDF.
  2. Publish it. You get one link.
  3. Print the QR code on table cards, the door and the bar. The share window gives you the code.
  4. Put the link on your website and your social profiles.

From now on the QR code never changes. Only the flipbook behind it does.

The weekly routine

  • Monday: write it. Decide what is on. Change the menu in the document you keep, in Word or PowerPoint or your design tool, and export a PDF.
  • Tuesday: update the flipbook. Open it in the Studio and publish the new version. The link stays the same, so every QR code on every table now shows the new menu.
  • Wednesday: check on a phone. Scan the code at a table with your own phone. Read every price.
  • Friday: note what sold out. If an item is off, fix it the same day. Publishing takes a minute.

Small things that save you

  • Date the menu. "Dinner, week of October 12" on the page tells you and your guests which menu it is.
  • Use Check before you share. It finds placeholder text, dates that have passed, and the same price written two ways.
  • Keep allergy information at the bottom of every page, and update it with the dishes. Whatever you say there, make sure the kitchen and the floor say the same thing.
  • Keep a short note of what changed. If a guest asks "wasn't that cheaper last week?", you can answer.

For a special menu

A holiday set menu, a tasting night or a catering list is its own flipbook, with its own link and QR code. When the season ends, remove it or set an end date so the link stops working.

What to expect from guests

A flipbook opens in the phone's browser. Nobody installs anything, and nobody signs in. A guest with a weak signal can save the flipbook to read with no connection.

The menu, drinks list, holiday menu and catering menu templates in the Studio are designed for this routine.
